How to use the payment calculator

Enter the amount borrowed, annual interest rate and loan term, then choose monthly, biweekly, weekly, semiannual or annual payments. Select a display currency, set the first payment date and add an optional extra amount if you plan to pay more than the required instalment. The result shows the scheduled payment, estimated payoff, total repaid and total interest.

How the monthly loan payment is calculated

For a fixed-rate loan, the calculator uses the principal, rate per payment period and total number of payments. The standard formula is Payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−n), where P is the amount borrowed, r is the annual interest rate divided by payments per year, and n is the total number of payments. For annual payments there is one payment per year; for semiannual payments there are two. At 0% interest, the principal is divided evenly across the payments.

For example, borrowing $25,000 at 7.5% APR for five years with monthly payments gives an estimated payment of about $500.95. The estimated total interest is about $5,056.92, before fees or other charges.

What the amortization schedule shows

The loan amortization schedule lists every payment date, payment amount, principal reduction, interest charge and remaining balance. At the start of a typical fixed-rate loan, more of each payment goes to interest. As principal is paid down, the interest portion falls. Extra payments are applied to principal in this estimate, which can shorten the payoff period and reduce interest.

Currency and estimate limits

Currency selection changes the display symbol and formatting only; it does not convert the amount using exchange rates. This calculator estimates fixed-rate borrowing and excludes lender fees, taxes, insurance and variable-rate changes. For an exact repayment quote, check your lender’s terms.

Payment calculator FAQs

Does this payment calculator show the full amortization schedule?

Yes. It breaks each scheduled payment into principal and interest, shows the remaining balance, and lets you download the schedule as a CSV file.

How do I calculate a monthly loan payment?

Enter the loan amount, annual interest rate and repayment term, then select Monthly. The calculator estimates the regular payment using a fixed-rate loan formula.

Can I choose annual or semiannual payments?

Yes. Choose Annual for one payment each year or Semiannual for two payments each year. The schedule uses the selected frequency to estimate interest and payment dates.

Can I use it for a car or personal loan?

You can estimate a fixed-rate car or personal loan if you enter the amount financed, rate and term. It does not include a vehicle down payment, sales tax, insurance or lender-specific fees automatically.

Is this the exact amount my lender will charge?

No. It is an estimate. Lenders may use different compounding and day-count rules, fees, rounding, variable rates or payment dates.
